35 Gift Ideas for Your Teen Son; Tech, Outdoor and More in 2024

Ok friends.  It’s that time of year again.  Gifting things to teen boys may seem hard, but if you’ve got a kid like mine it’s easy to know what their wish list is.  This may not be all his ideas, but when it comes to teenage boys I think a lot of these would be thing they’d agree are, “fire” as they say.  Oh, the lingo these days.

Teenage guys may still love video games, but they’re also moving on to other things like movies and music to when I think about the best gifts for them, I want to embrace what they may naturally love, but also push them to other things as well.  I’ve got some ideas broken into groups.  Cool gifts, experience gifts, tech gifts, and gifts they may need.

All in all I want my kids to be really thankful always, but especially as they get older.  Unfortunately at this age you’re going to have friends talking more than when they were little and had no idea what their friends got for Christmas.  My hope is they get some fun things, maybe some things we gift all our boys as brothers, and that they see experience gifts as truly that, a gift.

You know your kid and what they’ll like.  I’m offering a lot of ideas here and not sure there truly is a perfect present, although maybe your son has told you there really is just one thing they want!  I’ve also been told, “I’m older now, I don’t need surprises.  You can just tell me!”  In an effort to keep Christmas joy alive I’m not going to just tell him what he’s getting!  There still needs to be magic and a healthy dose of fun factor no matter how old our kids get!

As expected, affiliate links are used in a lot of these.  A little kickback comes to me and helps me run this space.  The best part is no change in price happens for you.  Thank you for shopping through my links!

A List of Outdoor Gifts

1. Swiss Army Knife.  He’s becoming not just a young adult, but a young man.

2.  This multi tool

3.  Opinel Knife- a Great first knife.  You know when your kid is ready for it.  Works great for a picnic knife too.  Can be personalized on their website!

4. Outdoor Hammock – so many colors to chose from.  They can bring it camping or easily hang it in a wooded backyard!

5. Sleeping Bag – If your kid doesn’t have their own, now’s the time.  Depending on where you live opt for something that will keep them warm, and cool.  We like that they can roll up easily and pack away for overnight camping trips.  This is great for winter or late Fall camping, and then this one for summer camping.

6. Nice gloves – Work gloves meet waterproof because they’ll still be in the snow.

7. Cool beanie

8. Shades.  That winter sun is bright!

9. A nice new helmet – sorry dude.  You still need to wear one!

10. Shiny new bike if they’ve grown, hint- they have!  Here’s a husband pick, and he’s a bike guy.

11. Basketball Hoop for the driveway.  Teen guys are loud, keep them outside!

List of Cool Gifts- possibly some unique gifts they’ll love.

1. Merch from his favorite music.  In our house right now that’s a lot of Coldplay

2.  Bean Bag Chair- my kids always ask for these and with more friends over, I get it.

3.  Judah’s.  Nike’s seem to be going strong, but I love the message all over these shoes!

4.  This lego set is so fun and kept my teen engaged while he built it.  Such a fun gift!

5.  Amazing RC Boats to get them outside.

Tech Gifts

1.  Holding off on a cell phone? Us too.  Try the Gabb watch.  They can still call and text, but that’s it!  No social media.  Bark is releasing a watch soon as well.  Personally, I’m a no on the apple watch.

2.  Good headphones.  You could opt for airpods pro, but I like some wired cushioned headphones.

3.  Yes, Nintendo Switch and Xbox are still loved at this age.  If you consider these, my advice is to have a plan first of how often they’ll get to play.  Otherwise, you may end up regretting the decision!

4.  Compact Size CD player.  We saved all our CD’s and offered most of them to the boys to listen to.

5.  This boom box is great too, everything doesn’t have to be connected to a phone!

6.  Carcassone is a fun board game, but switch also has it and the boys claim it’s easier to track there.

Experience Gifts

I love the idea of gifting things that you may not do often but are great experiences for them.  It’s a great way to gift something new.  Some of these would offer new experiences and challenges you can decide on based on their levels of difficulty.

1.  Membership to the local rock climbing wall is a great gift idea for many guys growing in strength.

2.  A class with outschool, art, music, coding.  So many options there for a teen boy gift.

3.  One of our favorites, guitar or ukelele lessons with First Frets. At home at your own pace and such a great price!

4. Top Golf- They always have a blast here but like everything else, it can add up.  Maybe you wrap some new golf gloves or a fun golf towel and tell them a few dates you’ve got on the calendar to go over break.

5. Have a local Cross Fit Gym in your area?  They often have teen classes.  If they don’t they may make one if they know enough kids are interested.

6. A bench for your basement or garage so they can lift weights at home.

Gifts they May Need

These gift ideas hopefully won’t result in an eye roll.

1.  Personalized Toiletries Bag.  Make it classy with one they’ll use for years to come

2.  A cozy throw blanket.  Teen guys may not admit it, but come family movie nights they’ll be asking for something like this or this.

3.  A new water bottle.  My teen uses my kleen kanteen that’s been going strong for 20 years now, but I like this or this for an upgrade.

4.  Socks.  Nike’s apparently offer “drip”  Again, where does this lingo come from?

5. Warm shoes for walking the dog.  Last year my kids got these cozy crocs, but this year I’ve considered these.

6. Shaving Products.  Jeremey’s would be my go to.  This set looks ideal.

7.  I love this brand of soap and deodorant for my boys.  It’s the perfect gift.  I know the products are safe and clean and they like the smell.

Well, I’m tired.  That’s a lot of ideas!  I tried to keep things in a wide price range and obviously you’ll tailor to your own budget.  My kids have come up with what they think we spend on them each year after no input from us.

For now we’re going to shop the sales just like you and stick to our budget.  As I said in the beginning, I’m always praying they’ll be thankful regardless of how much, or how little, they get.  Here’s to Christmas shopping!
